Even if  even though /although) Black people were freed by the emancipation proclamation signed by A.Lincoln in 1863, they were criminalized by the 13TH amendment. Even if (even though / although) black people had emancipated, they were segregated (were marginalized / were secluded) by the Jim Crow law. Even though they were free, they used to be persecuted (used to be lynched / used to be tortured) by the kkk during nektie parties. They used the ideology (mythology) of white supremacy as a justification to KKK persecutions.   The title of the song “Strange Fruit” is a metaphor for Black bodies hanged from the trees in the South. It was a poem written by Lewis Allan. This song is autobiographical for Billie Holiday because the KKK had killed her father during necktie parties. It was a personal protest for her because she denounced KKK persecutions.   She sang on stage in cafés that were segregated by the Jim Crow laws. She was scared because she didn’t know if people would love the song. She was scared (afraid / frightened) people would hate her. She was scared white people would kill her.   Even if (even though / although) she was depressed (anguished / anxious) she stood up against people’s mentalities. She was a hero because she embodied (personified / impersonated) the fight against KKK persecutions. The song became a national anthem for Black people because it shed light onto necktie parties and onto the reality of white supremacy.
